LPGA Golf Clinics for Women Kicks Off 27th Season

Kicking off its 27th season this month in Greater Los Angeles will be the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife. The 2017 schedule includes 14 events starting April 24, at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

The clinic schedule features major markets in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and the metropolitan area of New York. New sites for 2017 will include Austin, Texas and Cleveland, and major sponsors this year include Fidelity Investments and KPMG.

Founded in 1990 with one clinic by Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock, the clinics are now managed by Blalock and her company, JBC Golf. The clinics have given businesswomen throughout the nation an introduction to the game for more than a quarter century. This year’s schedule will take the clinics to 11 states with 70 to 140 women participants at each event.

“The LPGA Clinics were created to provide women another entrée into the world of business and to make them more comfortable in previously male-dominated settings,” said Blalock.

A 27-time LPGA Tour winner, Blalock launched the clinics after playing in corporate golf outings and observing that most other women at the events were present only in support roles or believed their golf skills were inadequate to participate in the outings.

“The golf course is certainly an established place for developing great business relationships,” Blalock added. “A lot of women were previously excluded from that venue because they weren’t comfortable, so it’s our mission to instill that level of confidence where they will accept invitations and participate, rather than staying on the sidelines.”

With a focus on learning business golf in a relaxed setting, each Monday clinic starts with a full breakfast, followed by instruction and play, lunch and a keynote speaker. A networking reception with all participants concludes each clinic.

Participants receive a full day of instruction with a Class A LPGA teaching professional in an 8-to-1 student-teacher ratio. The clinic includes three hours of individual skills instruction in putting, short game and the long game, followed by up to three hours of on-course instruction and play.

A new LPGA Clinics app for digital devices is now available at no cost in the App Store or Google Play. The app allows golfers to get golf tips, register for clinics, find an LPGA teacher in their area, and to set up a personal golf profile.
