Austin To Host LPGA Golf Clinics For Women In November

The city of Austin will become the newest host site for the LPGA Golf Clinics for Women from MetLife. The Austin clinic is set for Monday, Nov. 13, at the University of Texas Golf Club. Geared for women business professionals, the clinic will culminate the schedule for 2017 and will be one of 14 clinics held in nine states.

Founded 26 years ago by LPGA Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock and managed by her company, JBC Golf, the clinics are designed to give businesswomen an introduction to the game. Top Corporate America female executives have benefitted from the instructional clinics each year for more than a quarter of a century as a tool for business and networking.

“Sixty percent of our attendees are new to golf,” said Blalock. “It is a great introduction to the game and teaches women how golf can help form and foster key business relationships in a way that male executives have cultivated for years.”

The clinics offer a full day of instruction and guidance on course management from certified LPGA teaching professionals in an eight-to-one student-teacher ratio. Participants receive fundamental instruction while rotating through putting, short-game and long-game stations before moving onto the course to play several holes of golf alongside instructors.

“Clinic participants are grouped into sessions for beginners, intermediate and advanced players,” said Lisa Grimes, an LPGA teaching professional, who also competes on The Legends Tour. “The game can be intimidating, but this program removes a lot of that anxiety and attempts to make learning fun.”

“I use the clinic for business,” added Marie Bronco, a participant in the clinic held in Delray Beach, Fla. “My business is a relationship business and this day is all about that. These clinics have helped me understand how wonderful it is to have quality time with a client on the golf course.”

Each clinic includes a full breakfast, lunch and a day-ending reception. Guest speakers from top sponsors, including MetLife, Fidelity Investments and KPMG, offer comments and business insights to participants in an event designed to encourage socializing and networking with other business professionals.

A silent auction also raises money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program.

In addition, Ping golf clubs are available for use throughout the clinic for participants who do not have their own clubs. Each participant also receives Titleist Pro V1 golf balls and a special session on golf ball fitting. A selection of Cutter & Buck women’s golf apparel is also available for sale at each event.

Individual participants may register for the Austin clinic through the website at http://www.lpgagolfclinics.com. Cost for the day is $400 per participant and deadline to register is Nov. 6.

Table sponsorships are also available and include eight spots, customized invitation and registration process, recognition in the printed program and a branded table sign. Contact Melanie Bedrosian at mbedrosian@jbcgolf.com for groups larger than two or to sponsor a table.

The LPGA Golf Clinics for Women have served more than 35,000 participants since its inaugural event in 1990. Blalock hopes that golf can be used to benefit the professional lives of women for years to come.

“With a little skill and sound knowledge of the game and its etiquette, golf can open a lot of doors,” she said.
